Wrekin invests in Leadership learning

A decision that time surfing the net in the evenings could be better spent has resulted in our Senior Accountant Melanie Kinsey achieving the Chartered Management Institute level 4 Diploma in Principles of Management and Leadership.

The course, which Mel started in 2016, has involved researching and writing six 3,000-word assignments as well as operational work monitored on an on-going basis by assessor Jon Horton from Eurosource Training Limited.

Mel’s assignments included observations of the ways she and others work at Wrekin, as a result of which her team and the wider company will benefit from what she has learned.

Topics included “Managerial styles and behaviours”, “Understanding the organisation’s culture, values and behaviour” and “Managing stakeholders’ expectations”.

“We encourage and assist our staff to maintain continuous professional development, both by attending external courses and by taking part in the many learning opportunities we provide in-house.” – Wrekin Products Finance Director Lesley Walker

Pinpointing what she thinks was the most significant outcome from the course, Mel says: “It made me evaluate myself; reflecting on what I do and how I do it and then applying what I have learned at Wrekin Products.”

Commenting on her achievement, Wrekin Products Finance Director Lesley Walker added: “We encourage and assist our staff to maintain continuous professional development, both by attending external courses and by taking part in the many learning opportunities we provide in-house.

“Mel has worked incredibly hard to achieve this level of success, on what has been a self-motivated journey to learn more and I am incredibly proud of what she has accomplished, it will be very useful to Wrekin.”

Having achieved her level 4, Mel has now decided to carry on learning. Wrekin Products is supporting her as she works towards Level 5.
