Wrekin Products has been awarded a framework agreement with Yorkshire Water. The agreement sees Wrekin Products, intelligent products for civil engineering, supply the water utility organisation with ironwork drainage products including its high performance Unite manhole covers. The agreement is for three years with a two year extension.

Wrekin Products’ principle of improving whole-of-life performance was fundamental in securing the contract with Yorkshire Water. The choice of ironwork and drainage products can have a significant impact on maintenance cycles. According to the 2012 report on street ironwork by the Water Research Council (WRc), premature failure of covers is a major contributory factor in road surface damage, with over 70,000 foul water covers replaced every year at a cost of around £40M.
Taking an active approach through preventative maintenance by installing correctly designed products can break the cycle of premature failure in manhole covers. Cutting failure rates by using better products like Unite manhole cover has the effect of spanning replacement cycles. The result is significantly reduced maintenance costs in the long term.
There are well over 100,000 Unite manhole covers in service across the heavily trafficked UK highways network. In nine years of use they have provided significant savings in maintenance costs across the infrastructure of a number of utilities organisations including Scottish Water, Severn Trent Water, Amey plc and Thames Water.
Wrekin Products’ range of manhole covers are supplied across the UK through builders’ merchants.
