Our markets

Water, telecoms and energy

Access solutions used across the UK’s water, telecommunications and energy infrastructure. Our range of ductile iron and steel access products is supplied for applications involving maintenance and operation of underground networks.

We work with water, telecommunications and energy providers supplying access systems for projects across these sectors. The range includes ductile iron and steel products used within installations where ongoing access to below-ground services forms part of network operation and maintenance.

Reliable access solutions for essential connections

Water, telecommunications and energy networks form a central part of modern infrastructure. These services rely on underground assets that require ongoing access for inspection, maintenance and operation. As networks expand and infrastructure requirements develop, suitable access systems remain an important part of network design and asset management.

Our access covers, frames and surface boxes are supplied for these applications. The range includes features such as ScrewLift, which supports controlled lifting during installation, and HaloHinge, which provides hinged access for covers used within operational environments. These products are used across water, telecommunications and energy infrastructure projects throughout the UK.

Every product for water, telecoms and energy applications is designed and manufactured to rigorous standards:

  • BS EN 124-2:2015 – structural integrity and loading performance
  • CD 534 – skid resistance and installation safety for road drainage and services
  • BS 5834 – standards for surface boxes
  • BSI Kitemark certification – independent verification of product quality
  • BRE-verified EPDs – lifecycle transparency and sustainability assurance

Our products deliver measurable whole-life savings. Longer-lasting covers mean fewer replacements, reduced maintenance and lower embodied carbon, key factors for utilities and contractors managing critical assets.

Proven products for water, power and data projects

Every Wrekin product is backed by years of engineering expertise, ensuring performance that installers and specifiers can rely on. These are the key ranges that keep utility and telecoms networks connected.

Meeting the challenges of underground networks

Every installation brings its own set of demands, from maintaining watertight performance to reducing disruption during upgrades. Our product designs directly address the challenges faced by utilities and telecoms contractors every day.

Strength under pressure

All our manhole covers and frames are built to BS EN 124-2 and CD 534 standards, delivering long-term performance under heavy traffic and constant loading. Proven through our Unite and Highway ranges, they perform reliably across the UK’s busiest and most demanding environments.

Meet the Unite range

Frame Placement and Installation

Our covers and frames incorporate features that support installation and on-site adjustment, including compatibility with ScrewLift lifting equipment and integrated lifting points for handling during installation. These features assist contractors during on-site placement and frame seating.

Reliability with ScrewLift

Protecting networks from water and contamination

Whether using our retrofittable seal plates, factory fitted flood and odour control plates, our are SafeSeal™ C250 manhole cover range which prevents water ingress and odour escape, we protect you from serious environmental issues at every opportunity.

Fabricated steel access covers

We design and manufacture high-quality, fabricated-steel access covers that meet the demands of modern infrastructure and are made to your exact specifications.

Our bespoke service covers the full process, from site surveys and CAD design to fabrication and installation. Working closely with you from concept through to completion, we provide access solutions developed to suit the specific requirements of each project, supporting practical maintenance access and consistent in-service operation.

Whether it’s a one-off design or a complete tailored package, our steel solutions provide the strength, precision and flexibility you can rely on.

Tailored and proven solutions

No two chambers are the same. We offer a full range of standard and bespoke sizes, configurations and finishes - ensuring the cover fits the job. Developed alongside major utilities, our designs meet strict technical standards and perform reliably in the field.

Access for efficient maintenance

Access and handling considerations are incorporated into each cover. Features such as lift-assist options, integral hinges and fall-prevention elements support inspection and maintenance activities during operation.

Strength and long-term performance

Galvanised or coated finishes protect against corrosion, even in harsh environments. Reinforced frames, high load ratings and built-in stiffness reduce seat wear and bedding failures over time, delivering lasting reliability.

Secure by design

From simple locking bars to complex high-security mechanisms, our covers incorporate protection against unauthorised access and tampering. Locking options can be selected to suit the operational risk requirements of each installation.

Recessed Covers

BT approved

Our range of BT approved block pavior covers and frames are particularly suited to town centre developments, where replacement of existing service covers is required to facilitate infill of blocks or stone to match the surrounding area.

Individual lid sizes are reduced and incorporate a central lifting point and tapered cover side to provide a slide out feature which facilitates access by a single operative.

DropSeal compatible

Surface water entering foul-only networks is a hidden but significant issue. Even shallow ponding over a standard manhole cover can introduce flows large enough to overwhelm pumping stations and increase unnecessary treatment.

Our DropSeal system helps stop that infiltration at source (only products ending in /KUE or /KHE)

Using a retrofittable ductile iron seal plate, DropSeal covers provide targeted protection without reducing the clear opening or restricting safe access. Once a DropSeal compatible frame is installed, sealing can be added, upgraded or redeployed later as network priorities change.

With three selectable leak-tightness levels aligned with recognised Water Industry Specification (WIS) classes, the standards used by UK water companies to define performance requirements such as watertightness and infiltration control, the DropSeal system allows operators to match sealing performance to the risk at each location.

Retrofittable antenna options

Unite* and Highway access covers are the only ranges on the UK market to include provisions for communications equipment, such as antennas, to be installed within the cover.

Antenna in cover linked to hardware in chamber

The ID bolt provision can be used for antennas, allowing communications equipment, such as water meter monitoring, to be installed within a chamber beneath a cover while providing a strong signal above ground without the need to dig or adjust the surrounding road surface. Saving time, effort and money while minimising disruption.

Built for you, trusted by the industry

The utilities and telecoms sectors face constant operational pressures, from maintaining 24/7 service to ensuring compliant access to buried networks. Our products are built to simplify maintenance, reduce downtime and provide confidence on every installation.

Our experience spans national frameworks, new developments and retrofit works for water companies, power networks and fibre infrastructure providers. We understand the practical challenges: confined spaces, heavy traffic, repeat loading and exposure to weather and contaminants.

By designing products that address these challenges, we help contractors and operators deliver infrastructure that’s longer-lasting and more efficient. Every single one of our covers and frames is precision engineered, thoroughly tested and manufactured to the highest standards.

Sustainability

Building sustainability into everything we do

Sustainability is changing the way infrastructure is designed, specified and delivered across the UK. At Wrekin, our role is to support safer, stronger and longer-lasting infrastructure while reducing environmental impact wherever we can, and influencing positive change where the biggest impacts sit beyond our direct control. Our sustainability report sets out how sustainability is being embedded into our strategy, operations and value chain, not treated as a standalone initiative.

Our approach focuses on the areas that matter most to our business, our people and our customers: achieving Net Zero, supporting and developing our people, working in partnership across our value chain, and strengthening responsible sourcing. It also explains how our priorities have been shaped by a materiality assessment, helping us focus on practical action rather than broad ambition. From health, safety and wellbeing to product quality, energy use, emissions reduction and ethical business practices.

A key part of our approach is understanding where our impact really occurs. Our verified carbon footprint shows that collaboration with suppliers, logistics partners and customers is central to our Net Zero roadmap. Alongside this, we are progressing priorities including renewable electricity, on-site solar generation, transport optimisation, improved waste management, and greater product transparency through Environmental Product Declarations across our ductile ironwork range.

Sustainability at Wrekin is also about building products, partnerships and workplaces that are fit for the long term. From durable infrastructure solutions and recycled content in our iron products, to Carbon Literacy training and our 'The Sea Starts Here' initiative.
