Empowering progress: Carbon literacy training strengthens our ESG and net zero vision

Building a better future isn’t just about the products we deliver, it’s about how we deliver them. As a business with more than four decades at the forefront of the civil engineering industry, our commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance is more than policy, it's embedded in our culture.

Recently, our team took an important step forward in our sustainability journey by participating in Carbon Literacy Training, delivered by climate experts Positive Planet. This engaging, full-day session was designed to deepen our understanding of climate science, carbon footprints and the critical role individuals and businesses play in shaping a more sustainable world.

A Day of Insight, Empowerment, and Action

Structured in four comprehensive sessions, the training offered vital knowledge and practical tools:

  • Understanding greenhouse gases and the broader impact of climate change
  • Breaking down carbon footprints and carbon budgeting on both a personal and professional level
  • Business-led solutions to carbon reduction, aligned with industry best practices
  • Confidence-building and communication, equipping our team to advocate for change and formalise personal pledges for Carbon Literacy certification

This initiative supports our broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions, align with global climate goals, and embed sustainability into everything we do — from operations to product design.

Connecting climate action to our ESG strategy

Our Carbon Literacy Training is a natural progression in our ESG journey. We’ve long been transparent about our performance and ambitions through our Environmental, Social and Governance report. We know that improving our impact starts with understanding it. That’s why we:

  • Minimise waste — 0% of site waste goes to landfill
  • Target reductions in electricity use — aiming for a 3% decrease annually
  • Provide EV charging facilities to promote low-emission transport
  • Use fully recyclable materials and low-energy lighting in our facilities
  • Design long-life products that reduce roadworks, waste and emissions, like Unite and ClickLift

Through our partnership with Auditel, we’re also auditing and optimising our operations across the value chain. This enables us to measure, manage, and meaningfully reduce our carbon footprint.

We're deeply conscious of our environmental impact, and our goal is to minimise our business's ecological footprint while maintaining sustainability.

Leading by Example

We are proud to operate at the intersection of innovation and responsibility. We know that climate action is no longer optional; it’s essential. That’s why we’re actively engaging employees, investing in training, and seeking partnerships that support progress.

By empowering our people with the knowledge and confidence to act, we ensure that sustainability is not just a top-down ambition but part of our collective identity.

Building the Future, Responsibly

The Carbon Literacy Training reinforced our belief that real change starts with awareness and ownership. With every new initiative, training, and partnership, we’re making meaningful strides toward a Net Zero future where high-performance solutions meet high environmental standards.

As we continue to measure, report, and improve our ESG performance, we invite our partners, customers, and industry peers to join us on our journey.
