Environmental Product Declarations launched for entire ductile ironwork range

We are proud to announce the immediate availability of our Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). They have been built using accurate information from across our supply chain and have been independently verified by BRE. Our EPDs cover the entirety of our ductile ironwork range and are the only EPDs available of their kind in the UK.

During a time when customers are becoming more environmentally aware, this latest move allows us to provide environmental data for the entirety of our manhole covers, gully gratings, surface boxes, kerb units and ductile ironwork accessories, such as; Clicklift and Armadillo.

Paul Thompson, technical specification and sustainability manager at Wrekin Products, said: “Our EPDs will allow us to evaluate a product’s environmental performance over its entire lifecycle. The declaration considers the product's whole life, from material extraction to manufactured product, as well as usage and end-of-life analysis. All EPDs are verified by a third-party and we’re really pleased to have worked with leading verifier BRE, who also pointed out the quality of data we used

“Our EPDs highlight our commitment to measuring and reducing the environmental impact of our products, while also offering complete transparency to our customers. The declaration also means that we’ll be the only ductile ironwork manufacturer in BRE’s Greenbook Live, which is another testament to the industry-leading team we have here.”

With an EPD, a business can provide quantified data on details such as embodied carbon, ozone, acidification and more. The declaration also helps to support product development and sets a benchmark against which we can target future efficiencies to reduce our impact.

Paul, added: “Operating as sustainably as possible is high on the agenda here at Wrekin. We are committed to working towards minimising the environmental impact of all our activities, from developing products that increase whole-life performance to increasing recycling and reducing waste wherever we can.

“While providing a vital service, we are aware the effect our work can have on the environment, we take pride in reviewing and improving our processes to improve our sustainability efforts. This can be evidenced by our recent appointment of Auditel, who will provide a business wide audit of our current environmental situation”.

EPDs usually remain valid for a period of five years. Some manufacturers have the option to update an EPD before it reaches its expiry date in order to incorporate the latest advancements in efficiency, composition, or new technologies. After five years, an EPD can be extended for a further five years, providing the manufacturer can give sufficient evidence that no major changes have occurred to the manufacturing process.
