Filter out silt at the source

Armadillo Silt Shield

A fully retrofittable, robust, and environmentally friendly option for construction sites. This system effectively traps silt and debris before it can enter the drainage network, aiding compliance with environmental regulations while reducing the risk of blockages and associated flooding.

Construction sites are dynamic environments where the movement of earth, materials, and machinery can generate substantial amounts of silt and debris. When rain falls on these sites, water runoff can carry these materials into gully systems.

Without effective interception, silt and debris can enter the drainage network, leading to blockages, reduced efficiency of water management systems, and increased risk of flooding.

Discharging silt-laden water into natural watercourses can harm aquatic life and water quality, violating environmental regulations and resulting in hefty fines for construction companies.

Armadillo Silt Shield is designed to address these challenges head-on.

Unlike traditional silt management solutions, Armadillo Silt Shield offers a fully retrofittable, robust, and environmentally friendly option for construction sites.

This system effectively traps silt and debris before it can enter the drainage network, aiding compliance with environmental regulations, while mitigating the risk of blockages and associated flooding.

Key features and benefits

Fully retrofittable

Easily installed in existing gully systems, making it a versatile solution for both new and ongoing projects.

Ease of maintenance

The system’s design facilitates easy access for cleaning and maintenance, ensuring its effectiveness over time and reducing the likelihood of system failures.

Fully reusable and recyclable

Its durability allows for multiple uses across different sites or phases of a project, while its steel construction ensures that it can be fully recycled at the end of its life cycle, reducing waste and environmental impact.

Health and safety lifting points

Designed with keyway points to support Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) guidelines. This ensures that the bucket can be safely and efficiently handled, mitigating the risk of injury during installation, maintenance, and removal.

Environmental compliance

By capturing silt and debris at the source, the Armadillo Silt Shield helps construction sites avoid the discharge of polluted water into natural watercourses, thus reducing the risk of potential fines and environmental harm.

Robust construction

Manufactured from welded steel and designed to withstand the harsh conditions of construction sites, providing long-term reliability.

Zero impact on waterway area

Armadillo Silt Shield will only temporarily restrict the gully grating’s clear
opening, unlike competing systems, that leave the locator plate in situ after the silt bucket or bag is removed.

Full waterway performance

Unlike systems with permanent restrictions, Armadillo Silt Shield only limits the gully opening while the locator plate and silt bucket are in-situ. Once the system is removed, your gully grating will return to its full operational performance. This is a significant benefit over competing system which remain in place for the entire duration of the gratings service life, reducing waterway performance and clear opening dimensions, which could be an issue for any future maintenance.

How does it work?

1. Filter bag - The filter bag is made of lightweight yet strong geotextile fabric, designed to capture debris at the source as it enters the grating. It allows water to filter through the bag and into the drainage system while retaining silt and debris. These filter bags are reusable, easy to replace when needed, and come with replaceable options for convenience.

2. Safe handling - Lifting is made easy with the silt buckets’ integrated keyways, allowing lifts to be handled without the need for bending or kneeling. Additionally, lifting keys of varying lengths can be used to suit different needs.

3. Retrofittable - Armadillo Silt Shield is completely retrofittable, allowing you to remove the bucket from the locator plate, unhook the frame, and move it to a new location for protection where it’s needed most. There is no need to install anything beneath the frame, and the process is simple enough for unskilled operation, resulting in significant time and cost savings.

Promoting responsibility with Britain's waterways

The Sea Starts Here

We're promoting awareness of a simple but important issue on our most popular Tristar D400 gully gratings. Did you know that waste disposed of down gullies, whether at a roadside or pedestrianised area, can end up in the watercourse. This includes rivers, brooks, becks, ditches, leats and culverts. Ultimately, it has the potential to reach the sea, meaning the sea often really does start here.

In collaboration with a long-standing house building client, we've taken the notable step to include "The Sea Starts Here" as a message on our highest selling Tristar gully gratings. The message serves as a poignant reminder that our actions on land reverberate to our oceans.
