Our Solutions

Active Travel

We support the development of active travel infrastructure across the UK in alignment with guidance from Active Travel England.

Our range includes products such as pedestrian gully gratings and kerb drainage systems used within pedestrian and cycling routes. These products are specified within projects that form part of wider active travel infrastructure programmes.

Our range of Highway gully gratings are fully compliant with the requirements of specification clause 6.2.47 of Cycle Infrastructure Design Local Transport Note 1/20

Pedestrian-Friendly Gratings

Our pedestrian-friendly Unite gratings feature a secondary grating and provide safe, comfortable access for all users, including those with mobility challenges.

These solutions are crucial for developing inclusive active travel networks, ensuring that walking and wheeling are viable and attractive options for short journeys within towns and cities.

Whilst BS EN 124 provides no definition for a ‘Pedestrianised’ grating, there is an allowance in the Standard to reduce drainage apertures down to 5mm wide, where these may be preferred.

However, this restriction is avoided, wherever possible, as such gratings may not satisfy a scheme’s drainage requirements unless its lower waterway area is taken account of in the scheme’s design calculations. Therefore, pedestrianised gratings need to balance aperture size that prevents wheels and shoes from becoming lodged in its slot apertures, with the required waterway (drainage) area.

Pedestrian friendly gully grates

In theory, gratings compliant with BS EN 124 are suitable for use within pedestrian and cycle environments. The Cycle Infrastructure Design Local Transport Note 1/20 advises against the use of slot drain-type gratings.

The majority of our gratings fall within this category. The gully gratings listed below incorporate features intended for pedestrian use.

PSRV 70+ Across the Range

Our products are manufactured with surface finishes that achieve a Paving Surface Reflectance Value (PSRV) of 70+. This surface characteristic supports their use within pedestrian and cycle route environments where surface texture forms part of the specification for active travel infrastructure.

H2GO system

H2GO Kerb Drainage

The H2GO kerb drainage system is used within infrastructure projects to manage surface water along kerb lines, including locations associated with pedestrian and cycle routes. Drainage provision forms part of the specification for footpaths and cycle lanes where surface water management is required.

H2GO is a BS EN 124 D400 and BS 7903 combined kerb and drainage unit intended for site fitment onto a gully chute connector unit in a Group 3 location. The H2GO assembly allows inspection, cleaning and rodding access via a hinged top lid.

The H2GO unit comprises a main body with a BS EN 1340 half-batter kerb profile, a stainless steel turnbuckle lock operated with a dedicated key, a reversible side-hinged lid, and an adjustable road retaining bar.
